Crash ends Line's day in Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Today at the 39th annual Pontiac Excitement Nationals in Columbus, Ohio Jason Line sustained a high-speed roll over which ended his day in Round 1. Line, driver of the KB Racing Pro Stock Pontiac Grand Am, walked away from the crash with a bruised ego, but physically unhurt.
In his first race as a Pro Stock driver, Line was qualified 14th for today's event, and met Terry Adams in Round 1.
When the light went green, Line took a commanding lead, then the car suddenly got out of control. The car went to the right, and crossed the centerline. The car rolled over when Line attempted to bring it under control. He hit the wall and the car burst into flames as he slid down the track, upside down. The fire went out quickly and Line got out of the car under his own power.
"The car felt good and then all of sudden it went out from under me," said Line of Mooresville, NC. "It happened very fast. I think some inexperience on my part caused me to make a mistake. I could see him out of the corner of my eye and I sure didn't want to run into him so I over-corrected. I turned the wheel back way too hard.
"I'm fine but I feel terrible for [car owner] Ken Black and [teammate] Greg Anderson. This whole team worked hard to get this car ready for me. I'd understand completely if they don't want me to drive again. This was my first wreck ever. I just hope it's not my last ride."
The next race on the 2003 POWERade Drag Racing series will be the 7th annual Sears Craftsman Nationals June 26-29 in St. Louis, Mo.
