TROXEL FOULS OUT IN ATLANTA
COMMERCE, Ga. (April 29) -- Melanie Troxel was defeated in the first round of eliminations at the 27th annual Summit Racing Equipment Southern NHRA Nationals at the Atlanta Dragway by Doug Foley.
After having to wait for long time due to an oil down from the car previously in her lane in the round before her, she waited patiently while the NHRA Safety Safari cleaned up the track, but when it came time to race, Troxel was slightly premature in her reaction and left the starting line seeing the red light (-.051) on the Christmas tree. She recorded an elapsed time of 7.614 seconds, 95.68 mph to Foley's time of 5.464 seconds, 189.63 mph with both cars losing traction on the Georgia quarter-mile, NHRA's 600th Top Fuel race.
Troxel qualified in the No. 5 position in the strong field of dragsters with her elapsed time from Friday night of 4.525 seconds, 328.06 mph.
In the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel points standings, Troxel now finds herself on the outside of the enviable top eight positions in the Countdown to the Championship in ninth place with 280 points, only 13 markers out of eighth.
The next race for the Vietnam Veterans MIA/POW Top Fuel dragster will be the 11th annual O'Reilly Midwest Nationals at the Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill. on May 4-6.
