McCLENATHAN MAKES STRING OF 3.70-SECOND RUNS AT PBIR

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (Jan. 16, 2010) - Cory McClenathan joined a select group of his fellow Top Fuel racers at a test session held this week at Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter, Fla., by posting a string of stellar 3.70-second runs in the FRAM Top Fuel Dragster.

Under near-perfect conditions, McClenathan clocked a 3.771-second lap at 321.50 mph (his quickest), as well as a 3.794/308.28 and a 3.791, as the FRAM team prepared for the 23-event 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, which begins in Pomona, Calif., Feb. 11-13, 2010.

"A lot of things went into planning right after Pomona (2009 season finale) last fall," said McClenathan, who ended 2009 fourth in the standings with two victories in four final rounds. "With (crew chiefs) Todd (Okuhara) and Phil (Shuler) and the guys on the FRAM team, we knew we needed to shed some weight both with the driver and the race car. We needed to be 35 pounds lighter and have more power with our package. The guys went to work on that and I went to work on myself, and it's been a win-win situation for everybody.

"The car ran flawlessly during testing. We weren't the quickest, but we didn't get outrun by too many other teams. Everyone did their jobs and homework. I lost enough weight and the car lost enough weight and when we put it on the scales it was perfect. Now we can move the weight to where we want it.

"I'm really excited to get racing. The new FRAM colors look terrific. We have all of our sponsors on the car and, in today's world, that's great. To run in the 3.70s and run over 321 mph, I'd say we've got a pretty darned good hot rod right now.

"At the end of last season I thought we had the car to beat. (Larry) Dixon and I had a great race in the second round at Pomona. To see the car run that good at the end of the season makes me want to get to racing again, because I see us running even better in 2010. I think if we push it, it should run even better than it did during testing.

"Speaking for the FRAM team, we want a more consistent package. All the things we changed over the off-season and then tested in West Palm were all just perfect. The engine looks great and we didn't hurt parts and that's important. Nobody likes to test and have it not work and testing for us was a definite plus. The car didn't miss a lick and, if anything, it picked up its performance. We're ready for Pomona."
