BROWN QUALIFIES MATCO TOOLS RAIL 10TH AT DALLAS

ENNIS, Texas (Sept. 20, 2008) -- Antron Brown raced his David Powers-owned Matco Tools dragster to the No. 10 qualifying position Saturday afternoon at Texas Motorplex with an elapsed time of 3.897-seconds.

Brown, a two-time Top Fuel winner this season, entered the final day of qualifying for the 23rd annual O'Reilly Fall Nationals in the No. 10 position after running 3.897 seconds at 309.06 mph. On Saturday's first qualifying attempt, Brown's Matco Tools dragster overpowered the hot Texas Motorplex quarter mile as Brown coasted to a pass of 7.943 at 64.37. On his final qualifying attempt, Brown blasted the Matco Tools rail to a solid lap of 3.920 at 299.73 on a hot Motorplex drag strip to finish 10th in the 16-car Top Fuel order. There were 18 dragsters attempting to make the Top Fuel field at the O'Reilly Fall Nationals. It is just the third time this season that the 18-time NHRA winner will start from the bottom half of the field.

"That last pass was a good lap," Brown said. "That was a good number in the heat of the day. I'm just excited about coming out on Sunday and going some rounds here at Dallas. We're at the second race of the Countdown (to 1) and need to keep going strong with this Matco Tools team."

Brown will face off against No. 7 qualifier Steve Torrence in the first round of eliminations at 11 a.m. (ET) Sunday at Texas Motorplex. Brown is 1-0 against Torrence this season. Brown will compete in his 50th elimination round of the season and 400th round of his career in the first round on Sunday morning.
