CHEVROLET NOTES AND QUOTES REVELL NATIONALS TEXAS MOTORPLEX NHRA WINSTON DRAG RACING SERIES SATURDAY, OCT. 24, 1998

PRO STOCK TRUCK -- CHEVY S-10

FINAL ELIMINATIONS -- SEMIFINALS

BRAD JETER, BRAD JETER CHEVY S-10, was eliminated in the semifinal by LARRY KOPP, ACCURATE BINDING/ARMA COATINGS/G-FORCE TRANSMISSIONS CHEVY S-10, 7.683/174.45 for Kopp; 7.734/163.78 for Jeter. The track saw several trucks getting squirrelly in their runs. Jeter held the national e.t. record until Larry Kopp eclipsed it here on Friday. Jeter reach his first final round in Memphis, losing to Bob Panella Jr.

JETER: "We ran behind the fuel cars. They put a lot of clutch dust down on the race track. I hate to come out here and race under these conditions. I almost didn't come back in one piece. The Good Lord was riding with me on that pass. That's the only thing that saved me. It was out of control. It started at about the one-eighth mile. I drove it until I couldn't drive it anymore. When I quit I was over my head. It's just a matter of getting lucky to win that round. On the positive side, we did get additional time to work on the chassis and to continue gaining experience with (Bill) 'Grumpy's' (Jenkins) engine. We're still in the top five in points and this gives us momentim as we head toward the final race in Pomona. Our goal in the beginning of the year was a top-10 finish, so I think we've done extremely well to reach the top five. We're looking forward to contesting for the championship next year."

BOB PANELLA, JR., PANELLA MOTORSPORTS CHEVY S-10, was also eliminated in the semifinal, by JERRY HAAS, CHEVY TRUCKS CHEVY S-10. Haas' e.t. was 7.731 at 172.61 mph, to Panella's 7.984/139.92. Panella has reached the final two times this year, and won in Memphis.

PANELLA: "It wasn't even close. I had a pretty good advantage at the starting lights, I was probably on a better run. I drove past the part of the track that was prepped after the Funny Cars, and the S-10 just got kind of loose. I started thinking instantly about the other trucks that crashed this weekend (Bart Price and John Lukovich), and decided it wasn't worth it. I don't think it was savable no matter who was driving it. I wasn't going to take a chance. I saw Jeter doing it in front of me. I guess I could blame the clutch dust from the fuel cars before us, but you just have to deal with it. We're happy, the Chevy S-10 ran real good. We've been in the semifinals or better since Seattle. We will check it out, clean it up, rest for awhile and be ready for Pomona."

The final round will be Larry Kopp vs. Jerry Haas, both in Chevy S-10s.
