MCCLENATHAN EARNS NO. 3 IN DALLAS QUALIFYING

ENNIS, Texas (Sept. 25, 2010) - Cory McClenathan was sitting atop the qualifying charts during a five-hour rain delay today, having registered a scorching 3.834-second lap at 316.08 mph in the third qualifying session of the 25th annual NHRA Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex, just south of Dallas.

While the Funny Car class settled for only three qualifying rounds, the Top Fuel category saw their full allotment once the rain stopped, as the fourth and final round was run under even cooler conditions than on Friday night.

McClenathan's Don Schumacher Racing teammate Antron Brown was the first to knock "Cory Mac" off the top spot, with a 3.812/321.42, and was followed by Larry Dixon, who toppled Brown with a 3.793/320.05. Doug Kalitta followed with a 3.956/297.42, as McClenathan and his other DSR teammate Tony Schumacher lined up for the final pairing.

The fans were treated to a dynamite end to the session, as both Schumacher and McClenathan stormed to a 3.799/321.65 and 3.805/321.58, respectively. A valiant attempt by both, but Dixon held on to No. 1, as Schumacher came in second, followed by McClenathan in third.

McClenathan's other weekend passes were a 4.030/286.32 (No. 3), and a 3.881/311.56 (No. 2). He earned seven qualifying bonus points for his efforts.

"It's that time of year," said McClenathan, who is second in the Countdown to the Championship points to Dixon. "Everybody is trying to win a championship. We're running good, Dixon is running good, and Tony and Antron are running good, It's cool to see that after all that time of waiting and waiting the fans got to see some good side-by-side runs. It just shows how good a job NHRA is doing taking care of tracks, getting them dried off, as we're all trying to put on an excellent show for the fans, and that's what we did.

"And it worked out well for us. Being No. 3 tomorrow is nothing to be ashamed about. We have a great car and the FRAM boys did a great job."

McClenathan faces Morgan Lucas in the opening round of Sunday's eliminations.
