Line up against Ron Krisher in opening round
ENNIS, Texas (September 22, 2007) -- Jason Line, driver of the KB Racing LLC-owned, Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock Pontiac GTO, qualified No. 11 at this weekend's 22nd annual NHRA O'Reilly Fall Nationals, at the Texas Motorplex
On his first qualifying run on Friday, Line, who grew up in Wright Minn., and now lives in Mooresville, N.C., was all over the track. In the left lane, he moved toward the wall, got straightened out only to get loose again and move toward the centerline. His time and speed indicated he didn't take a straight line from A to B -- 7.953 seconds at 126.49 mph. He ended the first qualifying session in the No. 22 spot.
Being one of the first pair out in the second Friday session didn't help Line's cause either. He ran a 6.729 at 206.29 mph, which got him in the field in the bump spot -- No. 16.
His teammate Greg Anderson made note of Line's run and how it helped him maintain the No. 1 position at the end of the first day of qualifying.
"I feel bad for Jason (Line) because he had to go out first, but we were able to make some adjustments to my car after seeing his run," said Anderson, after Friday's qualifying. "We made some mistakes on his car and that gave us time to make some changes to my Summit Racing Pontiac. Having a two-car team definitely helped us out in that situation."
They gave Line some help in Saturday's morning qualifying session and Line ran a 6.703-second pass, which moved him up to the 11th qualifying position. He followed that with another 70 in the final qualifying session. This time it was a 7.707 seconds at 206.01 in the heat of the day.
"It's (the car) is getting better," said Line. "Let's see what we can do tomorrow. We'll all put our heads together and try to show them something during eliminations. I need to go rounds to get points."
At the Texas Motorplex, the all-concrete quarter-mile in Ennis, Texas, near Dallas, Line has one final round appearance. He was runner-up to his teammate Greg Anderson in 2005.
When eliminations begin tomorrow, Line will face Ron Krisher, who qualified sixth with a 6.696, as he goes after his 14th career win. In 2007, he has one win (at Houston over Allen Johnson) in four final rounds.
