FULLER FINISHES NINTH FRIDAY AT DALLAS IN HOLT CAT DRAGSTER
ENNIS, Texas (Sept. 19, 2008) -- Hot Rod Fuller raced his David Powers-owned HOLT CAT dragster to the provisional No. 9 qualifying position Friday evening at Texas Motorplex, a Billy Meyer-owned facility.
Fuller, who enters the second race in the Countdown to 1 ranked sixth in the NHRA Top Fuel standings, opened qualifying at the all-concreted quarter mile at Texas Motorplex with a solid lap. The seven-time Top Fuel winner used a tune-up from crew chief Rob Flynn to race the HOLT CAT dragster to the third quickest pass of Friday's first qualifying session at 3.896 seconds at 308.50 mph. On Friday's second attempt, the Caterpillar dragster lost traction as Fuller coasted to a run of 6.545 at 89.09. He's positioned in the provisional No. 9 qualifying position.
"We made a really good run on the first pass and we haven't done that a lot lately," Fuller said. "That's really key because it lets us get aggressive for the night run. We just were a little too aggressive, but that's ok. I like how the CAT car is running. We want to make two good runs in the heat on Saturday and tune this thing up for race day on Sunday."
Professional nitro qualifying resumes Saturday afternoon at Texas Motorplex with sessions scheduled for Noon and 3:15 p.m. (ET). Fuller qualified the HOLT CAT dragster fourth last September at the Dallas NHRA race.
