Taylor set to regain last season's form in Sacramento.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Last year, NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car ace Dennis Taylor toured the NHRA Circuit, primarily hitting national event venues. This year, with the backing of the Southern California based Cooner Wire, Taylor has focused on races in Division 7, but has experienced problems in both of his outings on that level, a stark contrast to the success he enjoyed last year. During the near two months since his last race, Taylor and his team scoured over the car and the information collected this year, and believe they have found their problem going into this weekend's Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in Sacramento, Calif.
Taylor, who runs his racing safety equipment company, Taylor Motorsports Products in Anaheim, Calif., feels that if the problem they found was as big as he thinks it is, this weekend should be their strongest race of the year.
"The gameplan this weekend is to try to get it to go smooth with as little tireshake as possible," said Taylor. "I know everybody probably tries to do that, but we definitely have overlooked some information. I found it the other day, and I think it is going to make a big difference in our program."
With hot conditions forecasted for the weekend, Taylor feels racing conditions will be marginal at best. He feels that the racer who can get down the track the most consistently will have the best shot at winning.
"I don't know if you will run much quicker than a high 5.70," commented Taylor. "Probably a low 80. It depends on the weather itself. Sacramento in the past has been a fairly quick race track, but it all depends on the weather. The weather this week in California is getting pretty hot; it's supposed to be 90 degrees here in Southern California the next couple of days. I would think that it is going to be in the mid to high 90's, if not even hotter. If the track temperature is above 140 degrees, which it is very likely to be, we're all going to have trouble."
Qualifying starts on Friday for the Top Alcohol cars, followed by two sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest in alcohol racing.
