Top Fueler Dave Grubnic enthusiastic to start points climb as NHRA seasons enters second half in Denver

DENVER, Colo., (July 12, 2006) -- As the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series makes the first stop on the famed Western Swing, three events in consecutive weekends from the Rocky Mountains westward, this weekend, July 14-16, in Denver for the scenic Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway, native Australian Dave Grubnic, driver of the pink and black, 8,000 horsepower, nitromethane-propelled StriVectin-SD Top Fuel dragster is looking toward the next three exciting, yet often grueling, three successive NHRA events as an opportunity to get on a winning streak and get in the thick of the Top Fuel championship points battle.

"Ah, the Western Swing," Grubnic said. "I've always liked racing the Swing. I think it's as much about endurance as it is horsepower. A driver and his team have stay completely focused to make the Swing a success.

"To that end, I'm ready to get back out there and race. We've had a couple of weekends off since St. Louis, and that's a lot of time to think about would'ves, could'ves, and should'ves from the first half of the season. Now, we have to get our minds right for the second half of the season and go win rounds. We're not out of contention for the championship. It will be tough, but we're anxious to get out there and go for it."

Grubnic is currently in 5th place in Top Fuel, drag racing's quickest and fastest racing category, POWERade championship points, 249 points shy of the lead. He was a semi-finalist last year at Bandimere Speedway, his career-best performance on the mountain-side drag strip.
