Line and teammate battle for top spot in Pro Stock
MORRISON, Colo. (July 7, 2006) -- As the second half of the 2006 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series season gets underway at the NHRA Mopar Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway, near Denver, July 14-16, Jason Line is locked in a tight point battle for the top spot in Pro Stock.
Line and his teammate, three-time and defending NHRA POWERade champion Greg Anderson, who drive identical KB Racing LLC-owned, Summit Racing Equipment-backed Pro Stock Pontiac GTOs, are separated by only two points. In fact, only 105 points separate the top five drivers.
Entering the Mopar Mile-High Nationals, with 11 races remaining on the 2006 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series schedule, including this event, the top five are: 1.) Anderson (801 points); 2.) Jason Line (799); 3.) Dave Connolly (730); 4.) Jim Yates (708); and 5.) Kurt Johnson (696).
"Boy this race has got tight, too tight," said Line. "But I would rather be first and second than some other spots. This first race at Denver and the two following in Seattle and Sonoma could go a long way in deciding who will win the championship. Both Greg and I need to do a better job of driving to come out the other side of these three races in a position to contend for the championship."
Denver marks the first of three grueling back-to-back-to back races, known among NHRA racers and fans as the "Western Swing." When qualifying gets underway at Denver, Line, who has gone to the final round twice this season, winning both, and has collected two No. 1 qualifying positions in the 12 races run thus far, must be at the top of his game to stay at the top of Pro Stock's elite.
Qualifying for Line and his KB Racing LLC/Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock Pontiac GTO begins with two Pro Stock sessions on Friday, July 14, scheduled for 4:15 and 7:15 p.m. and concludes with two additional Pro Stock sessions on Saturday, July 15, at 10:30 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Line, a former native of Minnesota now living in Terrell, North Carolina, begins his quest for the Mopar Mile-High Nationals Pro Stock title on Sunday, July 16, with eliminations for all classes beginning at 12 noon. All times are local Denver time (MT) and subject to change at anytime.
