MORRISON, Colo. - NHRA Competition Eliminator driver Jeff McClintic's last outing in his B/Dragster was a less than memorable experience at the Division 7 Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series event in Tucson, Ariz. A broken rod lead to catastrophic engine damage that has sidelined the team for several months, but with a fresh motor, and a rejuvenated driver and crew, the McClintic Motorsports team is ready to do battle during this weekend's Mopar Parts Mile High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway just outside of Denver.

McClintic, from Albuquerque, N.M., didn't just sit around the team's automotive machine shop during the team's down time. Rather, he worked closely with his father, John, and their shop employees, doing research and development on other areas of their engine while waiting for new parts and pieces to arrive. Now that everything has came together for the team, they feel they are even stronger with some of the new technology they have found.

"We want to pick up where we left off in Tucson," said McClintic. "Unfortunately, with what happened, it set us back so far. We spent a lot of time working on the heads and other things. Luckily for us, we are able to tune the motors to the high altitude we will see in Denver here on the dyno because Albuquerque is the same altitude. We're just going to have to get the car down the track because we have changed a lot on the car, as well.

Hopefully, it's all going to be the right combination."

Regardless of having a new combination to deal with, McClintic plans to come out swinging, and expects high marks from his family run team.

"It would be really nice to run in the seven-teens," commented McClintic.

"Up there, that would put us in the .75 to .80 under [the class index] range. It's going to be pretty tough, though. There's going to be some really fast B/Dragsters up there, but it would be nice to click off 7.18 to 7.15, maybe even a .12 if we are lucky."

Qualifying begins on Thursday for Competition Eliminator with sessions at 2 and 5 p.m., with one final session on Friday. First and second round of eliminations will be run on Saturday, and Final Eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
