MORRISON, Colo. - Castrol SYNTEC driver Tony Pedregon succumbed to mechanical problems and Castrol GTX Champion John Force was surprised by Scotty Cannon in an upset plagued 22nd annual Mopar Parts Mile-High Nationlas at Bandimere Speedway Park. Pedregon, who was bidding for his third straight victory on the mountain that is Bandimere Speedway, was victimized by a mechanical problem; Force, the nine-time reigning Winston Champion, was victimized by Scotty Cannon.

Pedregon's SYNTEC Ford dropped a cylinder just one second into his first round race with Del Worsham. The car then shucked a supercharger drive belt as Worsham drove by for the win.

Force probably would not have done anything differently if he had it to do over again. The 86-time tour winner recorded his best career numbers at Bandimere Speedway - 5.028 seconds at 306.26 miles per hour, the latter a track record. Unfortunately, Cannon was clocked in 5.022 seconds to win by a final margin of .006 of a second.

WINNERS: Top Fuel, Joe Amato defeated Tony Schumacher; Funny Car, Whit Bazemore defeated Scotty Cannon; Pro Stock, Kurt Johnson defeated Darrell Alderman; Pro Stock Motorcycle, Angelle Seeling defeated Matt Hines. NEXT EVENT: Prolong Northwest Nationals, July 28-30, Seattle International Raceway, Kent, Washington.

JOHN FORCE, Castrol GTX Ford Mustang

Qualifying position: 6th at 5.121 seconds.

Race Results: Lost to Scotty Cannon.

Notable: Cannon needed a track record 5.022 to beat Force's Denver career best 5.028 at a Bandimere Speedway Park record 306.26 miles per hour. Quotable: "I never saw him. I couldn't believe it when (the TV crew) went over to him. But hats off to that team. They did what they had to do. They took a shot and made it work." - John Force

TONY PEDREGON, Castrol SYNTEC Ford Mustang

Qualifying position: 4th at 5.082 seconds.

Race Results: Lost to Del Worsham.

Notable: Despite the loss, which ended a two-year winning streak at Denver, Tony moved from fourth to third in Winston points ahead of Ron Capps. Quotable: "It's unexpected. We had the conditions we wanted (but) sometimes these cars are just unpredictable. It's a tough weekend for us, but we'll just work a little harder. It's hard to imagine that we could, but we will." - Tony Pedregon.
