Hudson looking to score at hometown race

SONOMA, Calif. - NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Don Hudson and his Red Line Oil backed team will be looking to score their first victory in front of their hometown fans during this weekend's Fram-Autolite Nationals at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. Hudson enters the event fresh off a semifinal finish at last weekend's Schuck's Auto Supply Nationals in Seattle.

Hudson, of nearby Stockton, Calif., feels his shot at victory last week may have been derailed by a freak pit accident. While towing the car to the starting line for the semifinals, the tow vehicle was forced to make an abrupt stop. When it took back off, it broke the tow strap, which ended up breaking the front weight bar on the car. The broken weight bar went unnoticed, which is filled with thousands of small leadshot 'bb's. Upon acceleration, the leadshot got under the tires, causing Hudson to slow enough allow eventual winner Brian Hough to take the win.

"We're just hoping to pick up where we left off in Seattle," said Hudson. "We had our best numbers of the weekend to the 330 mark, so it would have ran into the 5.60's if I had run it out."

"This is our home track, and all our sponsors are within about an hour radius of here," Hudson continued. "Our primary sponsor Red Line Oil is based close to here, and we'll have lots of friends and family out here. We would also like to improve on last year's race here where we made the semifinals but were unable to make the call due to parts breakage. In addition to Red Line, we have some great associate sponsors in Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet, Delta Rubber, Vornhagen Body and Paint, Central Auto, and Fuel Delivery Services. Hopefully we can get the win for everyone we'll have out here."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars and concludes Saturday morning. Eliminations begin Saturday afternoon and conclude on Sunday
