Early exit for G Squared and Chip Ellis at Englishtown

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 19, 2005) -- After advancing four rounds and winning the CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill. last weekend, Chip Ellis, aboard the G Squared/S&S Buell, exited the NHRA K&N Filters SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J., in the first round.

In the first round of eliminations, Angelle Sampey turned Ellis back when she recorded a pass of 7.224 seconds to 7.276 seconds for Ellis.

George Bryce, who along with partner George Smith owns G Squared Motorsports, indicated that both good news and bad news came out of the visit to Englishtown for the G Squared and Muzzy Buells.

"We spent the weekend trying to learn more about the new motorcycle and the new S&S engine program," said Bryce. "We stayed and tested at Chicago, along with the Muzzy-built Buell, following the national event there. Neither of our teams was satisfied with their performance level. Both bikes went fast during the test session.

"Then came the bad news for G Squared, we came here and struggled. After qualifying pretty good, we went the wrong way on our tune up for the first round, slowed and lost the round.

"For the Muzzy/S&S-powered Buell, with Ryan Schnitz aboard, the results was just the opposite. They struggled some during qualifying only to see Schnitz run 7.019 seconds in the opening round, the low elapsed time of the event. That's the good news, especially for the S&S power plant.

"This G Squared team learned some things that didn't pay this weekend but it will pay for us in the future, starting next weekend at St. Louis."

NEXT RACE: The NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series moves straight to Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill., just across the river from St. Louis, for the Ninth annual NHRA Sears Craftsman Nationals which get underway June 24-26.
