G2/S&S/Star Racing Buell ready for Englishtown

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 16, 2004) - With the debut race for the G2/S&S/Star Racing Buell an acknowledge success, the S&S Cycle V-Twin-powered bike now heads to Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J., this weekend, for the 35th annual NHRA K&N Filters SuperNationals presented by Strauss Discount Auto.

After qualifying No. 2 at Columbus last weekend, Fred Collis had a shifter malfunction in the opening round of eliminations, ending all hopes for victory in the bike's maiden race.

"We have fixed all the little pieces and parts that needed replaced after the Columbus event, included a five dollar shifter linkage that we believe caused Fred's problem, making him unable to shift into third during last Sunday's opening round," noted Star Racing owner George Bryce, who along with George Smith, part owner of S&S Cycle, Incorporated, are partners in G Squared Motorsports.

"The bottom line is that there were no major problems during the bike's first taste of NHRA competition and we'll move on to Englishtown and continue this phase of the Buell's research and development from the combined efforts of Star Racing and G Squared Motorsports."

"Current plans call for the G2/S&S/Star Racing Buell to race at Englishtown and St. Louis, then George Smith and I will reevaluate future plans beyond that point as funding allows."

"We're ready to go right now," said Collis, who rode the bike both during testing and during the debut outing. "Running in the 12s (7.12 seconds) at Columbus and knowing that we have the power that we have and moving to a quick track like Englishtown makes you want the race to hurry up and get started.

"I was born and raised in Connecticut and will have a lot of friends and family at the race watching this awesome bike run."

Pro Stock Bike qualifying begins Friday with two sessions at 3:30 and 6:30 p.m., followed by two sessions on Saturday at noon and 3 p.m. Eliminations for all classes get underway on Sunday at 11 a.m. All times are subject to change and reflect Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).
