Anderson falls to KJ in Semi's
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Greg Anderson, driver of the Vegas General Construction Pontiac Grand Am, entered eliminations at today's at the 34th annual Mac Tools Gatornationals in the second position on the Pro Stock eliminations ladder.
"I think this is going to be a good race for us," Said Anderson. "I have a great racecar, a great crew; I'm ready to race.
"Right now it is cool and foggy, which I think is going to even the field out. The lanes are pretty even, so if it stays foggy today we will be able to win from either lane. Without having to worry about lane choice, there will be on one-sided race. Me personally, I hope the sun comes out, because I feel like I have an advantage when it is hot and sunny. Either way we are going to see some very close racing here today at the Mac Tools Gatornationals.
His opponent in Round 1 was Number 15 qualifier Ron Krisher.
Krisher handed Anderson the win when he left early and fouled out. Anderson ran a 6.816 / 202.80 mph to defeat a red lighting Krisher who ran a 6.858/ 200.22 mph.
In Round 2 Anderson faced his old boss, Warren Johnson. When the lights went green, Johnson took the advantage at the tree, but could not hold on to his lead. At about 300 feet, Anderson drove around Johnson to take the lead and the win. Anderson ran a 6.834 / 202.33 mph to defeat Johnson with a 6.857 / 201.43 mph.
The semi-finals saw Anderson paired against Kurt Johnson. In one of the closest races of the day, Johnson took the starting line advantage and held to take the win over Anderson by a margin of .0168 of a second. Johnson ran a 6.823 / 202.83 mph to defeat Anderson with a 6.824 / 202.61 mph.
"We have a fast racecar, and Kurt has a fast racecar. Bottom line is that he got me today, but I will not let that happen again. The next time we race him I guarantee that it will be me day next time.
"We will leave here tomorrow and go back to the shop, and get to work. Las Vegas is a big race for this team so we need to be ready. We had a good day, but we will try and make the next race a better day."
The next event on 2003 POWERade Drag Racing series will be the 4th annual Summitracing.com NHRA Nationals April 3-6 in Las Vegas, Nev.
