Anderson one point from the lead in the "Countdown to the Championship"

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 13, 2007) -- Entering the 38th annual NHRA ACDelco Gatornationals this weekend, Greg Anderson has his KB Racing LLC-owned, Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock Pontiac GTO second in points in the first of three segments in the "Countdown to the Championship," just one point behind his teammate, Jason Line.

Anderson, who has 173 points, enters the NHRA ACDelco Gatornationals with a win at the season-opening Winternationals, his 44th career win and the 172nd victory by a Pontiac in NHRA Pro Stock competition, the most by any manufacturer in the history of the sport. The victory was followed by a disappointing loss in the second round at Phoenix due to a broken oil line.

The three-time NHRA POWERade Pro Stock champion (2003-2005) hopes to rebound with a favorable showing this weekend. Anderson would consider a repeat of his win here in 2004 over Jeg Coughlin favorable results.

"A win would turn the misfortunes of Phoenix back to the positive side for this Summit Racing team," said Anderson on the eve of the Gatornationals. "Both Jason and I want to build as much distance as we can between us and everybody else and that's a tough assignment considering the competition out there this season.

"We've been working hard since Phoenix, looking for horsepower and testing our package. I think both these Pontiacs will be back on track at Gainesville. Don't be surprised if you see both ends of the track record reset this weekend. In fact, the fans might see the first 210 (mph) pass by a 500 cubic inch engine in NHRA Pro Stock competition."

Anderson in his Summit Racing Pontiac GTO holds both ends of Gainesville Raceway's Pro Stock track records, set in March of 2005. He set the Pro Stock bar at an elapsed time of 6.633 seconds and a speed of 208.23 mph.

Finally, although it's early in the Countdown to Eight, Line, with 174 points, leads Anderson, who holds the No. 2 spot, just one point behind his teammate, as noted earlier. ACDelco driver Kurt Johnson is third with 146 points. Rounding out the remainder of the top eight is Dave Connolly (#4 with127 points), Greg Stanfield (#5,126), Mike Edwards (#6, 105), Jim Yates (#7, 104), and Richie Stevens (#8, 88).
