School's out and Densham is In !!!
This is the time of year that Gary Densham and his family dream about. The Bellflower, Calif auto shop teacher and his family have left home to go full time Nitro funny car racing.
And the results were no less than favorable at the Friday quilifying sesson of the 2nd Annual Sears Craftsman Nationals in Madison , Ill.
As most of the first round was plagued by 140 degree track temps. and tire smoking fuel floppers, Densham landed his Team NEC/ Auto Club of So. Calif. Dodge Avenger in the Number 3 qualifying spot running a 5.16 @271.49 mph.
While the evening session brought cooler air tempretures. experience told Densham and his crew to stay with the same tune-up, as track tempertures still remained high.
Round two showed that experience payed off as Densham ran a consistant 5.16@279.41 mph qualifying him in the number four spot.
" We feel great about this session, says Demsham. After not qualifying two weeks ago, this feels great!!!!!"
