BAYTOWN, Tex. (May 3, 2011) – Vincent Nobile captured his first NHRA Pro Stock victory, highlighting a total of five Goodyear-equipped drivers who won at the O’Reilly Auto Parts Spring Nationals at Royal Purple Raceway.
Driving a car sponsored by Mountain View Tire, a company which owns a string of Goodyear Gemini stores in Southern California, Nobile trailed Roger Brogdon all the way down the quarter mile before nipping Brogdon at the finish in the final round.
The Goodyear-shod winners in the Full Throttle Drag Racing Series for professionals included Nobile, Del Worsham and Jeff Arend. In the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series for sportsman racers, Jim Whiteley and Bob Gulitti won with Goodyear.
Nobile’s margin of victory was just .0016 of a second, estimated by tracksiders to be about six inches. It was Nobile’s third chance in a final round.
Worsham beat teammate Larry Dixon in the Top Fuel final. The win was Worsham’s third in Top Fuel racing. He has 25 wins in Funny Car.
Arend beat Mike Neff in the Funny Car final. It was just Arend’s third national NHRA win and his first since 1999.
Whiteley won the Top Alcohol Dragster trophy, beating Mark Taliaferro in the final round. It was Whiteley’s 11th career victory in a national event. The margin of victory was only .0325 of a second.
