Goodyear Collects Five Wins at Mid-South Nationals

MELLINGTON, Tenn. (Aug. 23, 2004) -- Goodyear posted five victories in the NHRA O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals Presented by Pennzoil at Memphis Motorsports Park, the best showing among tiremakers.

The Goodyear headliners included Craig Bourgeois, who won his first national NHRA victory when he defeated David Rampy in the Competition Eliminator final.

Other Goodyear winners included Larry Dixon (Top Fuel), John Force (Funny Car), Jason Line (Pro Stock) and Mike Castellana (Pro Mod).

Dixon defeated Scott Kalitta in the Top Fuel final, marking the fifth straight year Dixon has reached the final round in the Mid-South Nationals and the sixth time overall. The win was the 35th of Dixon's career and tied him with 'Big Daddy' Don Garlitts for third place on the NHRA's all-time victory list Top Fueler David Grubnic recorded the quickest time of the weekend (4.58 seconds) and Top Fuel racer Brandon Bernstein had the top speed (320.51 mph).

Force's win was his first at Memphis since 1997. He has four wins this season and 113 for his career.

Line's win in Pro Stock came at the expense of Dave Connolly.

Castellana collected his second Pro Mod win this season. He beat Mike Ashley in the final.
