Greg Anderson Thursday report

Event: Pomona

Anderson Opens Pomona Qualifying in Fifth

Qualifying for the 51st annual O'Reilly Kragen Winternationals got underway on Thursday with a single qualifying session at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, with the weather playing a major role in how teams set up their race cars. Facing the possibility of limited attempts, defending NHRA Pro Stock champion Greg Anderson and the Summit Racing team opted to use a set up that, although possibly sacrificing maximum performance would ensure completed runs by all three Summit sponsored entries. As a result, Anderson logged a respectable 6.569-second elapsed time with a top speed of 210.60 mph to place fifth among the 18 cars making an attempt.

"The weather forecast is so iffy for the rest of the weekend that we went into a conservative mode to make sure we made it down the track," said Anderson. "We accomplished that, but we might have gone a little too far because neither myself, Jason or Ronnie made a clean run. So we have a couple issues we need to rectify, but the good news is I think we can.

"Fortunately, all three cars made it down the racetrack, so we have data that will help us see exactly what we need to fix. Hopefully, the weatherman will be wrong, and we'll get a couple more shots so we can get things rectified and put our Summit Racing Pontiacs near the top where they belong."
