NHRA ADDS NEW POSITION TO COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT
Appoints Halie Schmidt as Community Relations Manager

GLENDORA, Calif. (Aug. 25, 2008) -- Halie Schmidt has been hired as community relations manager for the National Hot Rod Association, NHRA Vice President of Public Relations and Communications Jerry Archambeault announced today.

Schmidt joins the NHRA after spending several years at public relations agencies working with clients such as Toyota, Yamaha and Mattel Hot Wheels on various automotive and motorsports initiatives.

In her new position, Schmidt will provide community relations for the NHRA Street Legal program presented by AAA, working to develop and execute comprehensive national public awareness/service campaigns to educate teens on the perils of illegal street racing, encouraging them to "race on the strip, not the street."

"We are pleased to have Halie on board here at NHRA," Archambeault said. "Although this is a new position within NHRA, we have been aggressively addressing these initiatives for many years. With the creation of this new position, we are fully committed and dedicated to further educate the general public, through alliances, events and activities, of the perils of illegal street racing. NHRA was founded on the principle of getting kids off the street and enjoying the sport in a safer, more controlled environment and we enthusiastically look towards the future of continuing to deliver that message and fulfilling that mission."

Schmidt received a bachelor's degree in journalism with an emphasis in public relations from California State University, Long Beach. A native of West Covina, she currently resides in Long Beach, Calif.

"I'm thrilled to be joining the NHRA," Schmidt said. "I am excited to work on the Street Legal program as keeping kids off the streets and encouraging racing on the track is right at the heart of the NHRA. I look forward to working with some great people, and feel honored to work on such an important issue for the organization."

Headquartered in Glendora, Calif., the NHRA is the primary sanctioning body for the sport of drag racing in the United States. It presents 24 national events through its POWERade Drag Racing Series. The NHRA has 80,000 members and 140 member tracks. The NHRA-sanctioned sportsman and bracket racing series provide competition opportunities for drivers of all levels. The NHRA develops the stars of tomorrow by offering the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, NHRA Summit Racing Series and the NHRA Street Legal Program presented by AAA. The NHRA also offers the O'Reilly Auto Parts Jr. Drag Racing League for youth ages 8 to 17.
