Starting from the sixth position, Bazemore was matched against Frank Pedregon. Fully aware that any advantage could be the deciding factor, Bazemore used a stellar .478 reaction time to leave nearly one tenth of a second ahead of his opponent. However, the Etchells fuel coupe lost traction almost immediately, forcing Bazemore to quickly pedal the throttle in order to regain control and resume his pursuit. Suddenly, it was Pedregon's turn to smoke the tires, and Bazemore quickly closed the gap. Both drivers were now battling furiously to cross the finish line first. Just as it seemed Bazemore could pull out an extremely close win, however, his progress was slowed once again by a broken blower belt, which ultimately allowed his rival to gain the round win.

"It's extremely disappointing whenever you smoke the tires at the hit. I did everything I possibly could to get it to hook up again, because I thought I could catch him (Pedregon). It would have been close, but the blower belt broke and we never got the chance. It's just a frustrating end to a very tough two weeks here in Dallas. We'll put this behind us and go on to Pomona. Hopefully it won't rain there and we'll get all of our qualifying runs in with the Kendall/Matco Camaro, and we'll be more competitive on Sunday."
