HOUSTON, Texas - Brian "Lump" Self, driver of the Lump Cylinder Heads Chevrolet S-10 Pro Stock Truck, is no stranger to the racetrack in Houston, Texas. Lump and his family live and work in the Houston area. He calls Houston his home and Houston Raceway Park his home track.

This weekend Houston Raceway Park will host the 14th Annual O'Reilly Nationals, the third stop on the National Hot Rod Association's Pro Stock Truck tour.

Self is coming off a forgettable race in Gainesville, Fla. last weekend. He did not qualify for the event, and sights parts breakage as the culprit. Lump hopes that 'home track advantage' will help him find his way to the winner's circle in Houston this weekend.

"I feel like we could have somewhat of a 'home field advantage' here in Houston," said Self. "Our shop is not to far from this track, so we spend a lot of time testing here. We have logged many hours at this Houston Raceway Park, and I think we know it a little better than the rest of these guys. Maybe that will be to our advantage this weekend.

"Last weekend in Gainesville we broke the transmission in the second session. That got us behind early. Then we could never catch up. You cannot give away any laps in this Pro Stock Truck class. One mistake and you are on the trailer. We made mistakes last weekend and it caused us not to qualify. We are taking steps, checking every piece, and part out now, so we won't have any surprises this weekend.

"Right now we are working 10,000 miles per hour trying to get ready for this weekend. Last weekend in Gainesville we struggled, and there is no reason why we should have struggled that bad. We are dynoing our motors and going through every inch of the truck to try to fix or prevent any problems we might have this weekend. This is our home track and we want to make a good showing.

Self talked about his strategy for success at this weekends O'Reilly Nationals.

"We have a plan for this weekend. In the first session, we want to make a clean, smooth pass. Get from point A, to point B without any problems. If we can do that then we will have something to tune the truck from. Then we can build on what we have. That way, hopefully we can be in a position to take advantage of the good sessions. That was our problem last week in Gainesville we got behind early and never recovered.

"It is going to be quick this weekend. Sea-level altitude and the cool temperatures the weatherman is predicting are going to make these trucks fly. Everyone is going to be fast, and I know we can be fast too.

"We are going to have tons of friends and family here this weekend cheering us on. It would be awesome if I could win this race here in front the hometown crowd.

"I went to the semi's last year. Maybe this year I can get past just one more round. If that happens tell the camera man to bring his wide-angle lens, because we are bringing crowd to the winner's circle."

Qualifying at the 14th Annual O'Reilly Nationals will take place on Friday March 23 and Saturday March 24. Eliminations begin on Sunday March 25 at 11:00 AM CST.
