O'Reilly Nationals Houston, TX April 8-11
Lake Zurich, IL April 5, 1999: Tony Gillig's the driver of the Gillig Motorsports, Shanahan Dry Wall Services Olds Cutlass is looking forward to the great racing surface at Houston Raceway Park. Gillig in preseason testing for Pomona in Houston ran a string of 6.96's and hopes to improve on that at the O'Reilly Nationals.
Tony states, "I'm looking forward to the Houston Race, my dad and Crew Chief Bob Gillig will attend the Houston race and we hope to qualify for our first NHRA National event. Although we will be without our Co-Crew Chief Billy Wagner, we will have plenty of help from friends and family to put the Oldsmobile in the show. I'm not giving up…we have come so close the past couple of events, I'm going in with a positive approach and giving it my best shot." On a more personal note: Tony's father Bob Gillig is 3 weeks post-op after having open-heart by-pass surgery. He is coming along very well and looking forward to getting back into the mainstream again. Bob's tasks will be limited to advising and overseeing the crew. Tony adds, "I take great pride in the relationship I have with my father, our companionship is very important to me as well as in our achievements in this sport. It's great to see him feeling better and attending this event."
