Force Will Drive 11-Time Champ Castrol GTX Ford at U.S. Nationals.

CLERMONT, Ind. John Force's latest Castrol GTX0x00ae Ford Mustang is a primary topic of discussion on the eve of this week's (Aug. 30-Sept. 2) 48th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals not because of its performance but because of its design.

The 11-Time Champion version of Force's Castrol Ford features a caricature of the 10-time Auto Racing All-America selection with NHRA championship rings on each of his 10 fingers and a record 11th hanging from a chain around his neck.

It's a drastic departure from the usual fare from Action Performance Companies, Inc., which designs the multitude of John Force Racing "theme cars" that ultimately wind up in the collectibles market.

Originally, Force nixed the caricature design but ultimately approved it with one change.

"They wanted to put the 11th ring on my toe," Force said. "You've got to
draw the line somewhere. I told 'em that was it."

The 11-time champ car is basically black, red and silver with the Force caricature on the side panels and a big 11-X emblem on the hood and both sides of the rear spoiler. It's the first them car Force has driven at Indianapolis Raceway Park since he won the 1998 U.S. Nationals at the wheel of the gold, seven-time champion Castrol GTX Mustang.

Ironically, that was his last victory in the sport's biggest event, a race he also won in 1993 and 1996.

Force rolls into IRP having won the last two races in the NHRA POWERade Series and three of the last five. As a result, the 103-time tour winner leads the Funny Car standings by 140 points (seven rounds) in an ongoing bid for an unprecedented 10th consecutive series championship.
