Dixon'S Miller Lite Team ready to tace "The Big Go".
Qualified No. 3 - 4.597 Seconds, 321.73 MPH

INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 1) --The term "The Big Go" in drag racing stands for NHRA's biggest and most prestigious event of the entire season - The Mac Tools U.S. Nationals. Miller Lite driver, Larry Dixon has two Top Fuel titles to his name (1995 and 2001) and hopes to add another one tomorrow in the Labor Day classic at the Indianapolis Raceway Park.

At the completion of five rounds of qualifying, defending Mac Tools U.S. Nationals Top Fuel champion, Dixon maneuvered his Dick LaHaie-tuned Miller Lite dragster to a time 4.597 seconds, 321.73 mph placing the Snake Racing team in the No. 3 position on the qualifying roster. Entering Monday's event his confidence is elevated based on the team's keen performance throughout the weekend.

"We made five smoke-free runs and hopefully we can make four of them tomorrow," said an optimistic Dixon. "We seem to have a good setup for the daytime and our night qualifying stuff has improved. I think everybody on the Miller Lite team is real pleased."

Dixon displayed continued consistency in Sunday's qualifying with his fourth and fifth consecutive competitive qualifying passes of the weekend covering the quarter-mile in 4.639 seconds, 321.12 mph in the early session, recording another reliable run of 4.669 seconds, 312.42 mph in his evening qualifying effort. Now the winner of seven NHRA National events out of 11 final rounds in 2002 wants to add another one to his win column for his Dick LaHaie led team.

"This is the one we want to do well," said a smiling Dixon. "We're trying a few things. I know before going up there, we ran a 4.64 yesterday and they were going to try a couple of things then to try to run a 4.62 or 4.63. We got up there and the track got hot and they backed down a little bit. "So to run a 4.63 today, especially the way everybody else ran, we're real happy with that."

The Miller Lite group will race Bruce Litton in the first round of eliminations. It will mark only the third time the pair have met with Dixon winning the two previous meetings and ironically, the last time the two drivers met in competition was in he first round of last year's U.S. Nationals.

Also, Don Prudhomme's Skoal Racing Funny Car team with Ron Capps aboard captured the $100,000 grand prize in the Big Bud Shootout, a race pitting the best eight Funny Car drivers in the country. Capps defeated Dean Skuza in the finals taking the top honor.

Final eliminations coverage will be broadcast on Monday, Sept. 2 beginning with two hours from 11:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. and ending with three hours of final round reporting from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. EDT.

Monday's Mac Tools U.S. Nationals will start promptly at 10:30 a.m. CDT.
