Whisnant number 2 in Indy.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Mark Whisnant, driver of the RW Performance Chevrolet Cavalier, will enter the 48th Annual Mac Tools US Nationals holding the second position on Pro Stock eliminations ladder.
In the third session of qualifying Whisnant drove his Cavalier to a 6.824 / 201.13 mph to take the number 2 spot on the Pro Stock eliminations ladder.
"Coming here we knew we could qualify well," said Whisnant of Stockbridge, Ga. "We knew that we had the potential to place this car in the top half of the field. We want to be Number 1 one, but Number 2 here at Indy is much more than we expected
"Today we have been using the last to rounds of qualifying to get ready for tomorrows race. The heat we have here today should be very close to what we will see tomorrow. Lane choice is going to be critical on race day. Therefore, we need to take advantage of these sessions in the heat of the day to get ready for tomorrow.
"Qualifying here in Indy is cool. In drag racing, the US Nationals is equivalent to Daytona, or the Indy 500. This is the race that everybody remembers, and the race that everyone wants to win.
"This is the first time I have qualified in a Pro Stock car at Indy. I am proud to be able to say that I qualified at the US Nationals, but I would be even prouder to say that I won the US Nationals. Tomorrow I am going to give it everything I have to leave her with those bragging rights.
Eliminations at the 48th Annual Mac Tools US Nationals begin at 11:00 AM CST on Monday Sept. 2.
