NHRA Funny Car competitor Scott Kalitta to run Toyota Solara body in final eliminations at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals

CLERMONT, Ind., (Sept. 4, 2006) -- Scott, Kalitta, driver of the special one-off edition, nitro-fueled Foose Design/Mac Tools Funny Car, debuted the new 2007 Toyota Solara body at this Labor Day weekend's annual running of the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis, but a crack in the new carbon fiber shell that was noticed after their final qualifying attempt Sunday was thought to have ended the new body style's inauguration. The Foose Design/Mac Tools team worked hard through the night last night to get the necessary repairs made that will now allow Kalitta to begin eliminations in the Solara skin Monday.

Kalitta, the No. 14 ( qualifier will race the No. 3 (4.701 sec., 325.14 mph) qualifier Tommy Johnson Jr. In the opening stanza for the Funny Car class.

Final eliminations for the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday at ORP with the Top Fuel class leading the way followed by Funny Cars.
