Shawn Gann leads the field in K&N Filters Pro Bike Klash

CLERMONT, Ind. -- Shawn Gann, aboard the Mac Tools/Berryman Products Suzuki, will be vying for the top prize of $15,000 which goes to the winner of the 13th annual K&N Filters Pro Bike Klash, a special event held during the NHRA 49th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park in Clermont, Ind., just outside the "Motorsports Capital of the World", Indianapolis.

Gann, from Stoneville, N.C., qualified #1 for the eight available positions in the Klash. Riders began earning qualifying points at the 2002 NHRA Mac Tools U.S. Nationals and continued through the 2003 NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd, Minn. The eight riders accumulating the most qualifying points during the season-long qualifying earned a spot for Saturday's (August 30) event.

Leading all qualifiers, Gann (pictured right) will be appearing in his third consecutive K&N Filters Pro Bike Klash. He won the Klash in 2001 and was a semifinalist last year. Gann will have Mike Berry as his opening round opponent.

In addition to Gann, the other participants are: #2 Angelle Savoie (three-time NHRA POWERade Pro Bike champion has six previous appearances, finishing runner-up in 1998, 1999 and 2000); #3 Geno Scali (currently leads the 2003 POWERade PSB point standings, going after first Klash win in this his fourth appearance); #4 Reggie Showers (third try at the Klash, still looking for that elusive first win).

The bottom half of the ladder includes: #5 Craig Treble (2002 K&N Filters Pro Bike Klash winner, trying to repeat in this his fourth appearance); #6 Antron Brown (has four previous appearances, winning in 2000 and runner-up in 2001); #7 Andrew Hines (first Klash for the Harley-Davidson rider, whose brother, Matt, won four consecutive years (1996-1999); #8 Mike Berry (second time in this special event, was runner-up last year).

Opening round match ups are as follows: Gann vs. Berry; Savoie vs. Hines; Scali vs. Brown; and Showers vs. Treble.

In addition to the $15,000 to the winner, the runner-up will receive $5,000. The semifinalists will each walk away with $3,000, while each first-round finisher will earn $2,500.

K&N Filters Pro Bike Klash rounds are scheduled for 12:30, 2:15, and 4:30 p.m., Saturday, August 30.
