BROWNSBURG, Ind. - On race day, Dean Skuza spins the tires on his Matco Tools/Mopar Parts Dodge Avenger Nitro Funny Car. On Thursday, the two-time NHRA national event winner will be spinning some of your favorite tunes from 8-9 p.m., Central on Brownsburg's Rock Station 101.9 WKLU. Skuza joins co-host Paul Wilson in "The Loudest Hour; Rock Radio Show."

Skuza, who has a great passion for music and owns more than 3,000 compact discs, will become a disc jockey for an hour prior to running the 46th annual U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park Aug. 30-Sept. 4.

Outside his love of family and racing, music plays an important role in Skuza's life.

"I can't ever remember going through a day without listening to music at least once," Skuza recalls. "When I was about five, I started to play the drums and guitar. I also joined a band when I was about 13 years old.

"I think it was because of my mom,"

Skuza continued. "Almost every night, my mom and I would sit back and listen to our old turntable and amplifier. We would listen to five or six albums a night and play games. It's a big part of my life."

Through his involvement with racing and a short stint with a rock band, Skuza has been able to expand his passion.

"I really think there are only a few people out there who appreciate music like I do," Skuza said. "I have been able to meet a lot of professional musicians through racing and my short musical career. We have the same passion for music. I think it does things to me more than it does to the average person.

"Many of my friends listen to music for pure enjoyment," Skuza added. "I can just see it in their eyes that they don't feel music like I do. I wish I could explain that feeling."

Along with being a disc jockey, Skuza will also be preparing to win the biggest NHRA event of the year.

"Indy has a lot of tradition," Skuza said. "It's the race everyone wants to win. At Indy, there are a lot of teams who show up for that race. There are a lot of entries and it will be tough to qualify.

"It's a race that could save your season," Skuza continued. "You could have the most dismal season ever recorded in NHRA history, but if you win Indy, you could look at the season as a success."

TNN will broadcast the U.S. Nationals from 4-6 p.m., Eastern Sept. 4.
