Team Jeg's looks to hold ground at Mac Tools U.S. Nationals

Pro Stock qualifying resumed Saturday afternoon for the 48th Annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals from Indianapolis Raceway Park. Forty-three competitors were set to take their best shots at making it into the quick sixteen field for Monday's eliminations. Team Jeg's drivers Jeg and Troy Coughlin entered the afternoon session qualified in the No.14 and No.10 positions respectively. Both Jeg and Troy were looking to improve on their Friday evening performances despite a significant rise in track temperatures.

Jeg was first into the water-box for Team Jeg's Saturday afternoon. Jeg elected to shut off after loosing traction just past the sixty foot mark.

"We simply gave the track a lot more than it wanted to handle on that pass," explained Jeg. "It would have been nice to have got some information from that run, but I couldn't risk staying in it. The car left the line really hard then shook loose out of the groove."

Troy Coughlin continued to impress in the day's first session. His Jeg's Mail Order Cavalier covered the quarter mile in 6.929 seconds at 199.11 mph.

"It was a great run for us in the heat of the day," said Troy. "We were able to be one of the more competitive cars in the afternoon sun. The information from that run will be pretty valuable if we get the chance to play on Monday."

The afternoon heat gave way to cool evening temperatures as Pro Stock took to the staging lanes for the third qualifying session Saturday night. Jeg and Troy were both looking for strong runs that could help to solidify their positions in the quick sixteen.

Jeg was quick to rebound from his earlier pass, tearing down the quarter mile in 6.853 seconds at 200.14 mph.

"It was pretty important for us to come back with a strong run after shutting off earlier in the day," explained Jeg. "We knew that we had a pretty good combination. Fortunately, the team made the right calls and we went right down Broadway."

Troy Coughlin was also looking to improve in the evening session. Troy posted a nearly identical time to that from his run Friday evening, tripping the beams in 6.875 seconds at 200.00 mph.

"We made a solid run, but we were looking to step it up a little more," said Troy. "Fortunately we have two additional attempts to get our Jeg's Mail Order Chevrolet Cavalier into the show tomorrow."

Jeg is qualified in the ninth position after three rounds of qualifying. Troy is a mere four-thousandths of a second out of the quick sixteen. Qualifying for the 48th Annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals will resume from Indianapolis Raceway Park Sunday morning.
