Jeg ready for battle at Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.
Team Jeg's entered the third day of qualifying for the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals with the goal of getting both of the Jeg's Mail Order Chevrolet Cavaliers into qualifying field.
Troy Coughlin was the first of the brother tandem to take to the track in Sunday's fourth round action. The Jeg's Machine posted one of the better passes of the session, conquering the quarter mile in 6.916 seconds at 198.90 mph. Despite a solid performance, Troy was still just four-thousandths of a second out of the quick sixteen.
"We made an excellent pass this afternoon," commented Troy. "Unfortunately the atmospheric conditions weren't favorable for a pass that could get us into the show."
Jeg Coughlin started the day of racing off in fine fashion posting a blistering run of 6.906 seconds at 199.76 mph out of the right hand lane.
"It was good to make such a strong run in the heat of the day," said Jeg. "Today's conditions should be very similar to what we will likely face in eliminations tomorrow. It was our first solid pass down the track in the heat. It should provide us with an excellent baseline to tune for the remainder of the weekend."
The afternoon sun continued to beat down on the strip at Indianapolis Raceway Park Sunday afternoon. Troy Coughlin would need a monumental effort to make it into the quick sixteen given the adverse track conditions. Once again, Troy posted one of the most competitive runs of the session with a 6.923 second pass at 198.86 mph.
"We made some excellent runs today," commented Troy. "Unfortunately the deck was stacked against us with the weather conditions that we ran in today. We gave it our best shot today, and my guys never gave up."
Jeg continued to shine in the final qualifying session. The Jeg's Mail Order Chevrolet Cavalier rocketed down the left lane in 6.927 seconds at 199.26 mph.
"The team did a great job making tuning calls in the heat," said Jeg. "We were one of the most competitive cars in the heat today. Hopefully that will transform into a victory for Team Jeg's tomorrow."
After five intense qualifying sessions, Jeg found himself solidly qualified in the ninth position. The 2000 Mac Tools U.S. Nationals will face off against Greg Stanfield in opening round action tomorrow morning.
