REICHERT, BOHL SET THE BAR IN QUALIFYING AT ORP'S NHRA LUCAS OIL EVENT

INDIANAPOLIS -- Qualifying is complete at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis (ORP). Rain early in the day did not put a stop to the action for long and in both the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car classes yesterday's fifth-place qualifiers zipped to the No. 1 spot. In Top Alcohol Dragster it was Bill Reichert, Owosso, Mich., who made the move to the top while in Top Alcohol Funny Car Andy Bohl, Racine, Wis., wheeled his ride to No. 1.

Reichert, who is the reigning national champion as well as division champ, laid down a 5.323-second, 271.41 mph to take the No. 1 place away from Dave Hirata, Lowell, Ind. Hirata failed to improve on his initial qualifying pass of 5.383 seconds at 258.32 mph. However, that run was good enough for the No. 2 position.

Bohl rocketed past the competition with a 5.641-second, 255.68 mph run. Yesterday's No. 1 qualifier, Mick Snyder, Demotte, Ind., did not improve on his 5.729-second, 252.38 mph pass and finished the day qualified fourth. John Bojec, Chardon, Ohio, did better his first qualifying effort but even with today's 5.673-second, 254.71 mph run he stayed in the No. 2 spot.

Super Stock racer Jeff Gillman, Marne, Mich., did hold on to the No. 1 qualifying spot as did Joe Schaechter, Moline, Ill., in Stock Eliminator and Mike Wharram, Morton, Ill., in Top Dragster. In Comp Eliminator, Larry Pritchett, Clarkrange, Tenn., wheeled his '07 Sunfire to the top of the field and in Top Sportsman, Cathy Belcher, Rantoul, Ill., drove her '90 Camaro to the No. 1 position.

Eliminations start Sunday at 8 a.m. Gates at ORP open at 7 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car run first round at noon.

Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at ORP are $15 Sunday. Children 6 to 12 years old are $5 and kids 5 and under are admitted free.

ORP is located on Indiana Highway 136, four miles west of Interstate 465 exit 16. For more information call the track, (317) 291-4090, or visit www.OreillyRacewayPark.com.
