Wilson looking to harness new power in Indy

CLERMONT, Ind. - Finding new horsepower does not always yield immediate results. Nonetheless, defending two-time Division 3 Champion Jeff Wilson and his Torco Race Fuels/STARCON backed team are fired up about their chances going into this weekend's NHRA Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series opener at the famed Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Wilson, from Winfield, Mo., cites that team crew chief Marc White found some significant gains on the dyno over the past few weeks.

"We made some changes, and it appeared really like what we did," said Wilson. "Now until we get it to the track, it's useless. We're making some pretty serious changes to the whole engine combination, so we can pretty much throw the old tune-up out the window. However, I feel that Marc and the guys will get a handle on it pretty quick."

Wilson also cites that the much-anticipated debut of his second A/Fuel car with driver Bruce Westfall has been delayed.

"Right now, we're 110% getting the blown car up to speed," stated Wilson. "We're not giving up on the A/Fuel program at all, we're just trying to not cut our primary program short right now. Hopefully by years end, both combinations will be choices for us going into a race."

Qualifying starts on Friday for the alcohol cars, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
