Angelle places the CVEC Suzuki in the top spot at Joliet qualifying midpoint.

For the first time in three races, Angelle Savoie's name was not at the top of the qualifying sheet following a Pro Stock Motorcycle session. In the opening time trial of the Chicagoland Dodge Dealer Nationals, Angelle's 7.293-second effort resulted in an atypical 6th place positioning.

However, Angelle and the CVEC Suzuki Racing Team bounced back on their second attempt, posting a 7.212-second elapsed time with a top speed of 185.18 mph to reclaim the No. 1 position midway through qualifying. Although pleased with the performance, Angelle was quick to point out that the team still had work to be done.

"We set goals for ourselves throughout the weekend. The first is to get to the track safely and on time, which naturally we did. Then we turn our attention to being the No. 1 qualifier. Right now, we're halfway there with the CVEC Suzuki.

"You can sleep so much better on Friday night when you're the number one qualifier. Now everyone will be chasing us tomorrow. I'm not sure what the forecast is, but I know we have a lot more in the bike than we showed. Of course, so do our competitors. It seemed like everyone was making mistakes today, and we made less than everyone else, which let us go to No. 1.

"I'm actually struggling right now to line my bike up straight. George (team owner Bryce) has been lining me up for a long time, and lately we think we've been setting up a little too much to the right. But when I try to line myself up, I'm usually too far over to the left, so right now we're trying to find a happy medium.

"Tomorrow, I'm going to concentrate on my reaction times, and the crew is going to fine-tune the CVEC Suzuki. Right now, it's been bogging at the starting line, so we'll work on the clutch set-up. That's a problem that compounds itself, because when the bike takes off after bogging at the starting line, it throws off my shift points, which has not allowed me to see what the track is like, and how the bike is reacting to it. We may be No.1, but we still have things to work on."
