Anderson after two wins at Route 66

JOLIET, Ill. (June 6, 2007) -- Greg Anderson hopes to take his KB Racing LLC, Summit Racing Equipment Pontiac GTO for a trip down Route 66 -- the Raceway, not the highway -- as he goes after the Pro Stock title and the King Demon Crown, a special race-within-a-race event for Pro Stock drivers run in conjunction with the 10th annual NHRA Torco Racing Fuels Route 66 Nationals this weekend at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill.

"I love the track at Route 66, but for some reason I haven't had much success there and I don't know why," said Anderson, who can not count a national event victory at the Joliet track among his 48 career wins. "I'm looking to break that jinx."

In the nine year history of Route 66 Raceway, Anderson has finished runner-up twice at the spring race (to Jason Line in 2004 and Kurt Johnson in 2006). In the now discontinued fall race, the Minnesota native, who now lives in North Carolina, finished runner-up twice also (to Jeg Coughlin in 2003 and Dave Connolly in 2004).

This might be the breakthrough year as the three-time NHRA POWERade Pro Stock champion (2003-2005) has been on a roll in the eight races run thus far in 2007, winning five of the eight.

Anderson's only success at this track has come in the King Demon Crown, an event he has won twice. He won the event last year over his teammate and reigning Pro Stock champ, Jason Line. He was runner-up to Kurt Johnson here in 2003.

He also won the Crown in 2004 over Dave Connolly, when the event was postpone at Route 66 due to weather and run at Heartland Park Topeka.

With a race payout of $76,000, the winner of this year's King Demon Crown receives $50,000, while the runner-up takes home $10,000. The two semifinalists walk away with $3,000 each and the four fist-round finishers each earn $2,500. Additionally, the low qualifier at each of the 22 qualifying events earns $3,000 (a total of $66, 000).

"I love to take Barry Grant's money," added Anderson, regarding the owner of Barry Grant, Inc., the company that puts up the purse for the King Demon Crown. "We took the qualifying bonus money all year and want to take the big check this weekend."

The KB Racing duo of Anderson and Line collected 17 of the 22 available No. 1 qualifying spots during the 22-race qualifying span for the King Demon Crown

Anderson collected 11 No. 1s during the qualifying span, earning the No. 1 qualifying position for the King Demon Crown. He accumulated 3,600 points. Line, with six No. 1s during the qualifying span and who was runner-up for the Crown in 2006 and 2005, earned the second qualifying spot for the King Demon Crown with 3,390 points.

Both Anderson and Line will pull their KB Racing LLC-owned, Summit Racing Equipment Pontiac GTOs to the starting line at noon on Saturday, June 9, for the first round of this year's King Demon Crown. In the opening round, Anderson will face V. Gaines, who earned the No. 8 position; while, Line will square off against Greg Stanfield, who qualified seventh.
