LUCAS STARTS LUCKY NO. 13 AT ROUTE 66 RACEWAY

JOLIET, Ill. (June 10) -- Morgan Lucas will roll out in the lucky No. 13 starting position for the ninth annual CarQuest Auto Parts Nationals at Route 66 Raceway to race Doug Herbert in the first round of eliminations.

In the last three times this pair have met in National event competition, Lucas has taken all (05 Pomona (Finals), 06 Atlanta and Topeka) the round wins.

"The last three times we raced him we were lucky and came out with the win," said a self-assured Lucas. "Please understand, Herbert has a really good car and we have to go up to the starting line with our 'A' game tomorrow. We can't afford to leave anything on the table racing up against a team like that.

"I think everyone's performance on the team has picked up this weekend. The fact that the car is going to the finish line is a big deal and I think we're pretty close to going and running in the low 4.50 range and I think we can make it happen."

Lucas earned the No. 13 qualifying position after running an elapsed time of 4.589 seconds at a speed of 314.31 mph in Saturday's only round of qualifying due to intermittent rain showers that plagued the day's qualifying allowing the NHRA officials to offer only one round for the teams.

Eliminations start for the CarQuest Nationals at 11 a.m. (CDT) with ESPN2 airing final round results with a two-hour program at 5 p.m. (EDT).
