Joliet, Ill. (Pre-race) - This weekend the DBP Enterprises Pro Stock Team turns their attention to the 4th Annual Lucas Oil Products NHRA Nationals and the Holley Dominator Duel to be contested Route 66 Raceway in Chicago, Ill.
Coming off a forgettable weekend in Topeka, Team DBP is looking to regroup and get back to basics. The Advance Auto Parts Nationals in Topeka was the worse outing of the season for team driver Greg Stanfield, but the amiable young driver from Bossier City, La. takes it all in stride.
"I have been racing long enough to know that you are going to have bad races," said Stanfield. "You'll have bad races. I have heard a lot of people say that they just want to forget the bad races. Well that is not how I operate. I want to remember every mistake that was made; because I believe the key to winning is to evaluate the mistakes you made, and not let them happen again.
"In Topeka we really struggled in qualifying. That got us behind the eight ball going into eliminations on Sunday. The transmission broke in round two that just compounded everything.
"This weekend we are going to try and get back to basics; to put the truck back to the way it was when it was running fast. When we get Chicago, our plan is to set the truck back up with our baseline tune-up. We will make a pass and go from there. Our goal for my truck this weekend is to get it running fast again.
"With Bart's (second driver and team owner Bart Price) truck we did just okay in Topeka. He qualified, but not as high as I would have liked to have had him. We are not satisfied with just okay. We want to put Bart in the top half, and get him past the first round. That is our goal for his truck for this weekend
"I will also race the Holley Dominator Duel this weekend. Being part of the Duel is great. There are only eight trucks that qualify to race in the Duel, and those trucks and drivers are the best of the best. To be included in this field is an honor, and we want to do well in it."
"I guess all in all, we will be okay in Chicago. We are not dwelling on Topeka, and have a clear focus on what we want to do in Chicago. If we stick to our plan and concentrate on being mistake free, we will be all right."
Qualifying at the 4th Annual Lucas Oil Products NHRA Nationals begins on Friday June 1, and continues on Saturday June 2. Eliminations will take place on Sunday June 3 at 11:00 AM EST.
