Connolly Doesn't Have Much Fun at Vegas This Weekend

This visit to Las Vegas "wasn't much fun," Dave Connolly said Sunday afternoon as he mulled over his ACDelco Nationals results at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Instead of driving into the winner's circle like he did here in April, Connolly and the SKULL GEAR Pro Stock Chevrolet Cobalt team exited competition in the opening round.

"We just had a bad weekend . . . from the time we got here," he "We continued. didn't have any luck at the track or in the casinos."

Connolly qualified 11th (6.861 seconds at 200.83 mph) as crew chief Terry Adams battled a clutch problem most of the weekend.

"We made bad runs Friday and had the clutch trouble, which we might've had for a while," said Connolly, "but we did make a pretty good run against (Ron) Krisher. He's running strong, and he made a nice run and just beat us heads up."

Connolly equaled his qualifying time (6.861 seconds at 200.80 mph)) but couldn't keep up with Krisher's 6.811, 201.97 mph performance.

Adams, meanwhile, called discovering, and solving, the clutch trouble a plus. "We've been really inconsistent lately and I think we may have found out why."

Adams will have one more 2005 POWERade Series event to test his theory. The Auto Club Finals is on tap at Pomona, Calif., Nov. 3-6.
