Will seeks winner's circle at LVMS
LAS VEGAS (October 24, 2006) -- Hillary Will, driver of the KB Racing LLC-owned, Kalitta Motorsports-managed Top Fuel dragster, returns for the second of two NHRA races -- the ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals -- at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, a track at which she is quite comfortable.
"Of all the tracks we race at throughout the year, I think I have been down The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway the most," said Will, who is one of four nominees for the Auto Club of Southern California Road to the Future Award. "It is one of my favorite facilities and I sort of feel at home there.
"It is the home track of our team owners, Ken, Judy, and Kenny Black so it would be extra special for us to pick up our first win in the NHRA POWERade series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway."
Since qualifying fifth at the spring race at LVMS, Will, from Fortuna, Calif., who now lives in Ypsilanti, Mich., qualified a season-high second at Bristol and clocked a career-best elapsed time of 4.507 seconds at Atlanta. She drove her KB Racing LLC-owned, Kalitta Motorsports-managed Top Fuel dragster to a runner-up finish at Memphis and posted semifinal finishes at Englishtown and Sonoma.
Surrounding the ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals, there are a lot of promotional activities going on in conjunction with the event:
FanFest Drag racing fans are invited to attend a free NHRA FanFest in the parking lot outside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino (4455 Paradise Rd.) from Noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, to help kick off the annual NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Oct. 26-29. The FanFest is sponsored by Budweiser, Oakley and Harley-Davidson.
Included in the festivities will be live entertainment, show cars, an NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series simulator and live radio remotes.
Autograph Session with Drivers: As part of the FanFest a free NHRA driver autograph session will take place in the parking lot outside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino from 5-6:30 p.m. Will, along with her KB Racing teammate Greg Anderson, will be among the drivers scheduled to participate in the autograph session.
Budweiser Shootout: Will and her KB Racing LLC team captured the 10th spot in points for the 22nd annual Budweiser Shootout for Top Fuel drivers which will be held at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday, October 28. By finishing No. 10 in the season-long bonus program during which drivers earn points based on how they qualify, Will has an opportunity, along with seven other drivers, of securing a spot in the eight-car field by participating in a special lottery drawing.
