KJ's "Bracket Car" Will Start Third in Las Vegas

Kurt Johnson and the ACDelco Cobalt Racing team continued their run of impressive qualifying efforts on Saturday, with their 6.726-second, 205.26 mph best capturing the third starting position for Sunday's final eliminations of the SummitRacing.com Nationals in Las Vegas, NV.

Quickly adapting their car to the hot racing surface at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in two of the four sessions the Johnson-led crew was the quickest among the 23 Pro Stock cars attempting to qualify. Armed with a fast and consistent race car, as well as valuable tuning data for this tricky track, the second-generation racer is enthused about his chances for race day.

"We're pretty excited because we made some changes to our ACDelco Cobalt before we came here, trying to set it up like our 2006 car. We had tried to do that with last year's car, but it didn't like it. However, this car is a little different, and, as a result we've got a pretty fast hot rod.

"Obviously everyone involved with this car has been making the right calls this weekend for the atmospheric and track conditions. We've also been consistent, with only seven thousandths difference between all four runs, so we're pleased with our effort so far.

"We're confident we have a car that whether the track is hot or cold, we'll know the right adjustments to make to get it from A to B, and that we have the proper power under the hood that we should put it in the winner's circle, which hopefully we'll do tomorrow. We run Max (Naylor) in the first round, and we owe him one from the last time we were here, but we're going to play it by ear tomorrow and see if we can go some rounds."
