Larry Dixon wins third race of 2002 with Miller Lite-Elvis Presley Dragster at the Strip at Las Vegas.

Dixon reaches final round at every race in 2002, is 15-1 in eliminations.

LAS VEGAS (April 7) - Reaching his fourth final round in as many races of the 2002 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Larry Dixon piloted the Don Prudhomme-owned Miller Lite/Elvis Presley Dragster to his first career win Sunday at the Third Annual Summitracing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Dixon's third win of the season was also the 19th of his career and moved him up to 24th on the NHRA All-time wins list, tying him with his former boss, Gary Beck. The win gave Prudhomme his 30th victory as a team owner since retiring in 1994 and was his 79th win overall. The Miller Lite pilot ran the table for the second straight race in a row as he won the race, set low elapsed time (4.575 seconds), top speed (325.37 mph) and was No. 1 qualifier - just as he did at the Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. (March 15-17).

Dixon kicked off the day with a first round win over Scott Weis. His lap of 4.733 seconds (320.51 mph) bettered Weis' effort of 6.825 seconds (131.24 mph) and extended Dixon's longest current Top Fuel opening round win streak to 30 events. The second round saw the Miller Lite Team battle some ignition problems during the warm up prior to the round, but Crew Chief Dick LaHaie directed his squad accordingly and they overcame their issues to post a lap of 4.887 seconds (293.66) to defeat David Grubnic (5.230 seconds, 265.48 mph). The second round win marked the first time Dixon had advanced into the semifinals in three previous races at The Strip. The semifinal round paired Dixon against Tony Schumacher in a rematch of the Phoenix final round - the only elimination round Dixon has lost this season. Dixon would get his revenge as he ran a 4.702 second pass (313.29) to beat the Army driver's lap of 5.695 seconds (182.30 mph).

In his fourth final of the season, Dixon met Cory McClenathan for their third career final round against each other. Dixon had lost the previous two final round confrontations, but got to taste victory as he ran 4.639 seconds (319.29 mph) and gave "Cory Mac" a runner-up finish (4.728 seconds, 313.88 mph).

Dixon has been the Top Fuel points leader all season and now has a total of 451 points with Sunday's win. He extended his lead to 147 points over second place Kenny Bernstein (304).

The Miller Lite Team gets no rest and hopes to take their winning ways to Houston next week for the O'Reilly Spring Nationals (April 11-14) at Houston Raceway Park.
