BELLE ROSE, La. - If defending NHRA Division 4 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Lee Callaway were the commander of a horse cavalry unit, the command of 'charge!' would be the rally cry going into this weekend's Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, La., just north of New Orleans. Callaway and his team plan to pull out all the stops in hopes of maintaining their Division 4 points lead.

Callaway, from Baytown, Texas, comes into the event on the heels of two dismal races for the team. The team inspected the car thoroughly after the two events and feel they have found the problem.

"We knew something wasn't right when we could barely run .50's in Indy," said Callaway. "We had the car more hopped up than we've ever had it, and it wouldn't even run as good as it did when we had it backed down for a match race in Sealy, Texas. After looking everything over, we have a pretty good idea on what it was. We're going to test on Thursday to see if we found the problem."

"I'm sick of messing around though," Callaway continued. "After running like it did at the last two races, I'm going to hop this thing up. If the computer tells me to put one jet in it, I'm going to go five leaner. I've got all my spare parts with me this weekend. If we have to break a few eggs to make a cake, so be it. We don't want to lose this division championship."

Coming into the event, Callaway currently leads second place driver Shelly Howard by 44 points. In the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, drivers can claim their best five out of the first eight races they attend towards their final points total. With both Howard and Callaway having attended six races thus far, it appears to be an all out sprint to the finish at the last two races at No Problem and Thunder Valley in Noble, Okla., in October. With a win, however, Callaway can clinch the championship.

"I've said from the beginning that it will probably go down to the wire," commented Callaway. "We can clinch it with a win, but it's going to be a tough race this weekend. It's late in the year, and you have other tough cars from other divisions fighting for their divisions, in addition to the normal tough cars here in Division 4. That's why we're hopping it up this weekend."

Qualifying will begin on Friday for the alcohol cars with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
