Cruz Pedregon Sits Fourth After First Day Of Qualifying

St. Louis, June 25, 2004 - After losing the first qualifying session due to a failure with the lights at the starting line, former Funny Car champion Cruz Pedregon streaked to an elapsed time of 4.810 seconds at 320.51 mph during the second session to qualify the Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Monte Carlo fourth at the NHRA Nationals at Gateway International Raceway.

"We didn't want to get to crazy with our setup for the second session since we missed the first one," said Pedregon. "Hats of to this team for turning it around and making a great run. We're going to use the information we gained tonight and get after it tomorrow and go after the number one spot.

Two more qualifying sessions are scheduled for tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. (ET). Final eliminations are Sunday, June 27, starting at 4:30 p.m.

ESPN2 will televise one hour of qualifying coverage on Saturday, June 26 from 10:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. (ET). Final eliminations will be seen on ESPN2 from 9:00 p.m. - midnight (ET) on Sunday, June 27.
