White makes third straight final at Indy.

CLERMONT, Ind. - NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Marc White made his third straight final round appearance during this past Thursday's resumption of the rained out Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at the famed Indianapolis Raceway Park. White qualified No. 1 for the event, but lost to Division 3 rival Chuck Cheeseman in the final.

White, from Glendale Heights, Ill., qualified the Etterman Racing Firebird No. 1 with a 5.708 second elapsed time at 250.97 mph. In round one, he ran a 5.709 at 251.32 mph to defeat John Reikas in the much cooler conditions in May before the event was postponed. In the semifinal, White received a competition bye run on Thursday, but experienced heavy tireshake and lifted. In the final, White took a slight starting line advantage over Cheeseman, but once again had trouble with the hot track and slowed to a 6.023 at 241.54 mph that wasn't enough for Cheeseman's 5.945 at 245.29 mph. Even with the loss, White still holds a commanding points lead in Division 3 standings.

"It was just a hot, greasy track, and Chucky and his guys did a better job at negotiating it," said White. "I didn't drive the car as well as I should have, and that hurt our performance as well. I'm not trying to make any excuses. We just got beat. We'll get them at the next race."

The next event for the Etterman Racing Team will be another rain postponed event, the resumption of the Route 66 Raceway LODRS event in Joliet, Ill., July 19-21. There, White currently holds the No. 1 qualifying spot after one qualifying session.

"We'll probably have the same hot conditions in Joliet," stated White. "We're not too worried. We can run better than we did this weekend, I just didn't drive the car the way it was supposed to be. It's better that being the problem than some gremlin in the car we can't find. We've been there and done that, and it isn't real fun."
