White looking for first win of the year at hometown track

JOLIET, Ill. - After returning home from a disappointing second round loss at last weekend's Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., Federal Mogul Funny Car driver Marc White hopes to turn things around for the better at this weekend's NHRA Division 3 Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series opener at Route 66 Raceway, just outside of Chicago. White was the '98 Division 3 Champion, and hopes to regain the crown this year.

White, from just down the road in Glendale Heights, Ill., has been one of the hottest drivers this year. White has wheeled the Etterman Racing 2001 Firebird to a best of 5.67 earlier in the year, one of only four FM/FC's to do so this year. White hopes use his performance advantage to pick up the win this weekend.

"The gameplan is the same as always," said White. "We're just going to go out and run the car as hard as we can, and try to qualify well. We've been in contention to win just about every race we've been at this year, but we just haven't been able to pull off a victory yet. It's time we get the ship righted, and start going rounds."

With Route 66's reputation for being one of the best racetracks in the country, White feels that more 5.60's will be in store for this weekend.

"Looking at the forecast, and if it stays the way it looks, I definitely think we should be able to get back into the 5.60's," stated White. "Joliet is one of the best racetracks in the country. It's always well prepared, and we have a pretty good amount of data from this racetrack too. I think we'll be in pretty good shape this weekend."

Qualifying begins at 4 p.m. on Friday, with two more qualifying sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to Etterman Racing's new website, http://EttermanRacing.com for day by day updates of the action from Route 66.
