Taylor reaches semifinals in Medford.

MEDFORD, Ore. - After weathering a very up and down year, NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car pilot Dennis Taylor had a solid outing during this past weekend's Division 6 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series closer at Southern Oregon Dragway in Medford, Ore. With the outing, Taylor feels that his Cooner Wire backed team is back heading in the right direction.

Taylor, who runs his racing safety equipment company in Anaheim, Calif., qualified the Cooner Wire Camaro third in the field with a 5.972 second elapsed time at 240.53 mph. In round one, he defeated John Knox with a 6.163 at 234.47 mph. In his semifinal bout with eventual winner Mike Andreotti, the pair left together, but Taylor smoked the tires down track, handing Andreotti the easy win.

"We had a solid outing this weekend," said Taylor. "Even though we didn't win, I'm not complaining. We figured out a few problems we were having on the car, and the car responded to the changes we made without hurting any parts. We kept on having a problem all weekend smoking the tires off the launch pad, which was only 200'. That eventually bit us against Andreotti. Now that it's over, I think I know what we could have done, but it's a little late now."

The next event for the Cooner Wire team will be the O'Reilly Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex just outside of Dallas, Oct. 10-14. There, Taylor and team hope to follow suit with another solid outing.

"The Motorplex is an awesome track," stated Taylor. "We hope to go there and do well, but it will be a tough field. Our car tends to like the good tracks, so hopefully it will play into our hand."
