MEMPHIS, Tenn. - When a drag racer goes and tests, he usually tries out a new combination, new parts or things of that nature. Leave it to Bruce Litton, driver of the Wix Filters presented by the Top Dragster Driving Experience, to find a new method of doing business. The Indianapolis-based, enclosed trailer dealer is testing to learn better combinations that excel in cooler weather during this weekend's NHRA Autozone Nationals in Memphis, Tenn.
Litton is currently in the midst of a three-way Top Fuel points battle over on the IHRA series. Currently, 15 points separate Litton from Paul Romine and Clay Millican, both of whom are also in Memphis.
"There's a good chance that the season on the IHRA side will finish in cold weather," explained Litton. "We wanted to come out here and find some combinations that would help us, especially since the Rockingham race was rescheduled for November."
Litton opened the first day of qualifying by making an impressive 1,000-foot lap that resulted in a 5.071/227.34. He ended the first session as the ninth quickest qualifier.
He chose to sit out the second session and as a result dropped 12th. His reasoning?
"It was way too cold to get anything worthwhile out of the run. Maybe Saturday will provide better results."
